Inside the annual awards evening

Black tie, a London ballroom, five hundred guests and a shortlist read out in silence. What the night is actually like.

The awards close the conference year. Delegates arrive from the day's sessions, change, and return to a ballroom set for five hundred.

The format is deliberately unhurried: dinner, a single keynote, then the categories read in order, each with the judging citation that earned the win. No sponsor speeches between awards.

For winners, the practical value starts the following week — press coverage, a permanent entry on the Wall of Fame, and a noticeable change in how banks and boards respond to the business.

For everyone else, it remains the single best-attended night in the network's calendar, and the easiest place to meet people you would otherwise spend a year trying to reach.
